Listening skills

For success in our life we need to develop many skills .Listening skill in one of the most important in them. Generally in our life we attribute our success with our ability to communicate well. Communication skill involves both speaking well as well as listening well. According to me listening properly is lot more important than speaking. As listening well greatly helps us with speaking well. In the absence of this skill messages is very easily misunderstood .Listening well is so important in every walk of life that big corporate company provide training to the employee so that they communicate well professionally. Listening well just don’t involve listening to the words .It has many dimensions in it like getting the mood of the speaker, listening to words and following his gesture. If you also want to improve your listening skills, you can try the following to begin with.
1.Try to listen not hear -- hearing means the sound to the ear .many
time we pay attention and many times we don’t pay attention .But listening means paying attention .It means not to just listen to the content but, also how it is presented .The voice, the body language .so listening properly involves paying attention to both verbal and non verbal communication.
Stop talking --First thing for listening is to stop talking or  intercepting when someone is talking .Don’t interrupt as long as the other person is speaking .Once he is finished you can ask your question regarding the proper understanding of the message. If you have trouble focusing on what being said you can repeat the words being told by speaker.
3.Enjoy the communication -- Communication is like a puzzle. When you listening to someone you can take it as a puzzle to solve. Your task is to find what is being told without being said. You can find this by focussing on what being told and what is not. Try to enjoy the process as a game. You can try to make the speaker at ease by giving him or her proper attention.
4.Relate with the speaker-- when you are in communication process try to relate with the speaker .Try to see the situation from his perspective and empathise with his concern. You can bend you head on one side to give him attention. You should nod your head time to time to relate with on his key issues.
5.Practice patience-- when you are listening don’t be in rush .Always give time to the speaker for competing his message comfortably. Don’t be judgemental to the person or the message .Take his views with open mind .Try to get the tone of the message along with the message.
Always focus on non verbal signs like hand movement, palm positions, eyes, face, eyebrows, change of tone in voice etc.To summaries, I must mention Active Listening is a require lot of awareness where you make a conscious effort to know all aspect of the message. Focusing on non verbal clues also with the words spoken gives us an edge.  Knowing the message right always helping in taking correct course of action .And our action determines our destiny. So, dear reader always focus on Why It Is Being told before what is being told.
