    Exam Tips

    Steps to Get Good Marks
    1. Do not eat just anything before an exam. : You should not eat any heavy meal for 3 hours before going to an exam. This is because digestion of food requires energy. When you eat food blood supply and flow of oxygen increases to stomach area. The total blood in the body is constant, so the blood that’s supplied to the brain decreases. This is why you feel lazy or sleepy after eating food. This also means that your IQ or brain power decreases for a few hours (2 or 3 hours) after eating.
    2. Do not stay awake for a long time, the night before the exam.
    3. Read your school books and refer to more than one book for accuracy.
    4. Do your homework. You can do homework due tomorrow today and do the ones due next week tomorrow.
    5. Don’t waste your time on computer games or anything else that would waste your precious time.
    6. Sleep is very important to you. It makes you fresh and gives energy
    7. If you are not optimistic and energetic, you will not do your best in your exam. You will get fewer marks than you are capable of.
    8. Gather all your needed stuff (pen, hall ticket, etc..) before sleeping in the day just before the exam.
    9. Do not practice for the exam in the exam itself. Do your job at its full potential at home by exercising from either your worksheets, past exam papers or any suitable source from the Internet.
Exercising is very important; as you get used to it, in addition to learning more about your exam questions pattern.
    Tips to get Good Marks
    1. Concentrate in the exam and relax.
    2. Study in phases. Each phase should not exceed 40 minutes in time. Take a break after each phase (up to 20 minutes).
    3. Studying while having something in mind that you want to do is a waste of time. Do everything you want first then study; as your brain will not beg you to stop studying. However, if you have nothing in mind, then don’t play (for example) before studying – finish your job towards school and then enjoy in the rest of the day.
    4. There is no shortcut to success. This is the first thing you should remember. For this reason, you have to make a great deal of effort.
    5. Each subject has a unique way of preparing, studying and answering its questions. Some competitive exams (university’s exams, for example) need a long and complex preparation, while your school exams may need preparation of one or two weeks.
    6. Studying while containing fear inside yourself is a waste. Get rid of fear and any other possible bad feelings before studying.
    7. A good timetable will help you. You may organize it in such a way that a long/hard subject takes more space than a short/easy subject. Remember, however, that all subjects should be studied.
    8. Get rid of any unnecessary ‘time wasting mechanisms’ while studying. This includes TV, computer (only if you need Internet access), mobile phones, tablet, or even your younger brother!
    9. Make notes while studying. Write a synopsis for your subject if you are studying it for the first time/ in the beginning of the school year. This will help you in the future examinations by allowing you to remember the contents of your subjects.
    10. Eat well and sleep well.
    11. Write clearly and be direct to the point. Don’t write any irrelevant information. Don’t wrap the right answer in a wrong answer. Write in full sentences. Don’t expect the examiner to link your sentences, fill in the space or any other thing. Think that the examiner is your little brother, and you are explaining to him. Will he understand anything by just telling the keywords? NO!
    12. Some studying programs like the GCSE, SAT, and IB might be expensive. Remember that your parents are the ones behind paying these amounts of money, and that your failure will cause them to pay more.
    13. Make a list of all the things you need to do to study for each subject, and how long you think it will take you. Use this information to make up a study timetable. Be certain that you have given yourself all the time you think you need, plus a little extra per subject, in your study plan. Also make sure your study plan has enough space in it, so if something comes up one day, you can shuffle around your plan so that you don’t lose study time.
    14. Attempt the questions which are easy first and then the ones that are hard for you.
    15. When you are preparing for a test or exam- forget about the actual test or a exam and just know that what you are doing exactly.
    16. Don’t be disappointed at your previous result.
    Warnings
    1. Do not read in the examination hall or just before the exams. This would make you forget about the previously learnt topics.
    2. Never try to cheat.Be confident.Your partner may be wrong.Self help is the best help.
    3. Never help others before the completion of your own paper. It would eat up a lot of time.
    4. Never overwrite.

    Exam Stress

Exam season has come .Due to the exam fever all student start feeling stress.Stress is a condition, where your body carries out hormonal response against an unfriendly situation. It is not always harmful. It prepares the mind for either, ‘fight or flight’. Students who are able to counter it, come out as an excellent winner. Sometimes, this hormonal discharge surpasses the optimal threshold and causes dreadful feelings. These feelings appear when the child is unable to fight back in an optimistic way. The actual trouble arises when the stressful entity begins to hover around the child. In such situation, a child finds it hard to get through and loses his main aim.
If you notice some unusual habits or activities developing in your child, then you must help him/her to cope with stress. We have mentioned some signs that can help you figure out if your child is showing some symptoms of stress. It is a must to study your child’s behavior carefully. Do not make any hasty conclusion until you have observed a group of symptoms simultaneously over a period of time. Stress management starts right from identifying the signs and symptoms in the child.
Once you have found that your child is stressed, you should plan on helping him/her out, here are a few ways that can help you do that –
Spend quality time – Stress can germinate from the feeling of being neglected. Children may hesitate to approach when parents are busy in their own work all the time. It may look difficult to go out, play, sit back and talk for hours after a tiring day at the office, but spending time with kids gives a feeling of security and concern to them. Listening to their activities at school helps to chalk out a better plan of indulgence for them.
Create a positive environment – A stressed person gets entrapped in negative thoughts. It may get exacerbated and give rise to depression and withdrawal from love and fun. In extream cases, children can also develop suicidal tendencies. In such a scenario, parents should accept the flaws and help the child in rectifying. Criticism should be taken over by understanding and support. Parents should inculcate the spirit of confidence. They should motivate their kids and teach them to stand over again after any fall or fail.
Group activities – Pamper your child by participating in their daily activities. Help them in their studies, play with them, take them for outings, organize a get together for their friends at home, etc. If your child is facing problem in performing well for the upcoming sports event, join them. Even if you cannot participate, be a spectator and cheer them up throughout the practice sessions. A caring and loving parent can help them more than any medical help.
Healthy from within – As mentioned, a child under stress tends to skip meals and that can cause health issues. It can deteriorate their health. A proper watch should be kept on their eating habits. Make sure to serve them healthy food that keeps the mind active and body energetic.
Share stories – Bedtime stories take a child to the dreamland. Similarly, stories of great warriors or cases of common people who achieved victory after several defeats act as a catalyst in keeping their morale high. They learn the theory of ‘never give up’ and that boosts their conviction.
Simple steps along with parental support can pull out your child from the stressful situation. Remember, stress is not a disease, it’s the way of your body to show that things are going out of reach, hurry up and nip the stress in the bud!

Planning for a new academic year

    back-to-school

As the month of march is approaching , excitement fills the heart of student community as they are about to begin the new academic year. This is the time when the students, teachers and parents are all busy planning for the new beginning. At home, the parents and children are on their toes as the kid enters a new grade. Here are few tips to help all those ambitious parents who want to make this transformation easy and rewarding.
    The Week Before
Preparations for the new term, starts a week before. This includes:
    1. Shopping – Make a shopping list before you shop. This may include school stationeries, books, uniform, backpack, lunch box and shoes. Make an estimate, involve your child and check out if there are things which can be reused or added to the list. Then go shop and keep things ready.
    1. Home works and School assignments – Some schools give assignments for vacation. Make sure that the kid has completed his home works and assignments before school starts. Not completing the assignments may create unnecessary issues in the beginning of the term, making it a bad start.
    1. Brush up the basics – Moving on to the next grade or term needs a brush up of the key concepts. This is because, if the child has not understood or has forgotten the lessons taught previously, then the new concepts may seem difficult, as they are just the continuation of the old concepts. So, brush up the basics and make the child ready for new learning.
    1. Lunch habits – Adopt the school’s lunch timetable. This helps the child to get used to the new school timings and helps concentrate on learning rather than, on a hungry tummy!
    1. Transport – Make sure whether the kid is using school transport or you are taking up the responsibility. If its school transport, then inform the management and make necessary arrangements. Talk to the transport in charge and update your contact information. If you are dropping the kid to school, then consider your time and routine, make the necessary arrangements.
As one can see, week before the school is really important.  How well you prepare decides, how well you start! Know that, a work well planned is half done.
    First Week of the School
    1. Meet the teachers and staff – Teachers are the key role players in the educational life of a child. Every new term or year, is usually associated with the change in class teachers and subject teachers. This may prove to be good or bad depending on child’s previous experience.
To avoid any negative outcomes in the future, meet the teachers who have already taught your kid and discuss the areas of strength and improvement. Meet the new teachers, convey the information and discuss study plans for your kid. This will even help the teacher to gauge your child’s calibre and adopt proper teaching methodologies. Some schools organize orientation sessions. Attend them and know what’s in store for the new academic year.
    1. Prepare a study time table – Schedule the study hours of your kid. Find out which part of the day suits well, whether the morning hours or evening or late nights? Set aside some time for group studies as well. But, make sure if his study circle has right peers. Get actively involved in all the study activities of your kid. This will make you get a proper perspective of the kid’s progress.
    1. Sports and fun – along with studies, sports and entertainment plays a very important role in the physical and mental growth of children. So, bring them in the daily time table. Encourage yoga and exercise. Studies have proved that, children who are physically active, have good physical and mental health.
    1. Create Master Calendar - Schools give out prospectus which has information on the important events and school activities for the upcoming year. Go through the prospectus carefully, note down the important dates and create a master calendar. Knowing the important dates earlier, eases the preparations for the same and keeps you ready for any unpredicted challenges.
    1. Update contact information – Updating contact information is very important but, highly neglected aspect. Any negligence in this, may lead to unexpected troubles and worries. So, don’t forget to update the contact information. Even if you have not changed your address or telephone, mobile number, check if the saved information is right, especially with the teachers and transport staff.
    1. Talk to your kid – Talk to your kid about the new teachers, new friends and all that happens in school. Get an insight of the school activities, your kid’s peer group and friend’s circle. This helps you to know if your kid is among right people and doing right things. By talking to your kid, you will also be able to help him/her to overcome troubles in and around the school, if any.
    1. Preserve the good work – Every child is good in some skill. Some like drawing and painting, some music and dance, some are good at sport while other’s in academic scores. But, whatever your child’s taste, preserve some of his works, medals or certificates for memory. Years after, if anybody loves to dwell on, it is the childhood memories. Preserving childhood memories in tangible things, brings those moments alive.
School days are those days in which a child develops his intellectual and emotional skills. It is at this stage, that he develops a personality. But remember, home is the first school. Parents are the first teachers. So, along with all the above mentioned tips, it is very important for parents to develop a good lifestyle filled with discipline, morality, ethics, responsibility and empathy.
It is more important for a kid to grow as a good individual who proves to be an asset for humanity rather than the one who is not only intelligent, but also a threat!

    E-learning : change of Scene

In today's world, educational technology has become an effective tool in the learning process. Electronic educational technology, also known as e-learning or distance learning, has become an important part of the society. With the help of live lectures, people are consuming course content much in the same way as students in a regular classroom set-up.
In fact, in some ways, the experience is better than of those who've still stuck to the traditional mode of learning. The focus should shift from knowledge-based to application-based testing to gauge the learner's ability while the teaching staff needs to quickly sharpen their technological skills to leverage the digital platform. Below are a few advantages of E-learning: Cutting across boundaries The major advantage of e-learning over offline mode is to access information anywhere and anytime. It is one of the most convenient way to gather the knowledge and information in an interactive way.
Seamless delivery of live lectures, where students get to interact with the teaching faculty in an instant, is successfully recreating a traditional classroom, though virtually. Changing the rules of examination Apart from changing the way education seekers consume content, the online mode has also brought a positive development in the examination procedure. It also helps the students understand the concepts in a more engaging and interesting way. Needless to say, it economies the use of resources by eliminating the need for staff, stationery supplies, campus facilities, furniture etc. A boon for self-learners With its many advantages at every step, online education has indeed redefined 'convenience' for both students and teachers.
The rapid adoption of smartphones and the increasing dependence on data has opened up a whole new world of mobile-based learning. This has come as a boon for self-learners by allowing them to sample course content before they decide to take the plunge and opt for a course. Enhancing the teacher-learner bond With more and more institutions warming up to the idea of making educational content available online, it is important that learners quickly adapt to this changing trend. In a dynamic online set-up, both teachers and students can learn from each other and embark on the path of discovery and knowledge by keeping it interactive. In today's scenario, the role of the teacher is shifting from being just information-owners to facilitators and guides. This is best supported through the digital format, where learning can give way to experiential learning.
The platform also allows educators to find creative ways to make the best use of class time whereas students get a chance to sharpen their technological side so they can derive maximum value. Redefining outlook and conventional thought processes Digital learning is turning the education into a more 'inclusive' experience and makes the right teaching talent more accessible. The prevailing educational system has to break away from the idea of imparting learning and instead, encourage out-of-the-box thinking towards life, career and learning.

The fact that we have the maximum number of engineering graduates in the world and the country still lags behind globally in technological development, says a lot about the system that only pushes people to follow the herd. The goal of our new education system should be to create entrepreneurs, innovators, artists, scientists, thinkers and writers who can establish the foundation of knowledge-based economy rather than the low-quality service providing nation that we are turning into. And this is impossible if education stays restricted to the confines of a conventional classroom.
